During this diagnostic procedure, fluorescent dye is injected into the bloodstream to highlight the blood vessels in the back of the eye. A special camera records the blood flow in the retina to make it easily seen on a photograph. Your eyes will be dilated before the procedure. Fluorescein angiography allows doctors to detect normal and abnormal patterns of blood flow, often providing critical information to determine a diagnosis of various eye conditions, such as such as macular degeneration or diabetic retinopathy.
This scanning laser procedure takes high-resolution images of the structures of the eye. It can document the presence of fluid in the retina and swelling of the optic nerve. OCT can also help diagnose and manage certain forms of glaucoma and can track retinal nerve fiber density to verify efficacy of treatment.
The Cizik Eye Clinic also provides fundus photography for images of the retina; slit-lamp photography for images of the cornea, iris, and lens; and external photography to record unbalanced muscles, malpositioned eyelids, traumatic injuries, and configuration of orbits.
The ultrasonography unit at the Cizik Eye Clinic provides noninvasive diagnostic testing and evaluations of adults and children. Ultrasonography permits identification of ocular and orbital lesions, such as tumors, retinal detachments, hemorrhages, or foreign bodies within the eye that cannot be detected by conventional exam procedure.
Confocal microscopy is a noninvasive technique that permits in vivo visualization of the entire corneal thickness. The precise measurements that are possible with this technique permit localization of intracorneal disease processes.
